The 15th Gwangju Biennale intends to recreate the original spirit of pansori, with artists that try to re-think the space shared between humans, machines, animals, spirits, and organic life— our relational space. Amol K Patil presents Who is Invited in the City? a site-specific, immersive installation comprising bronze sculptures, video, light, and sound. Patil foregrounds the overlooked, oppressed, and invisible labour forces that often migrate - travelling through time and space - to urban cityscapes, seeking a light that is yet to arrive. In this work, sound becomes crucial, as the artist notes, “sound travels through these communities for generations through vast kilometres… the works are an amalgamation of these conversations, sounds, and looking for lights in the big city.”
